HR Administrator (Tormead)

Required for September 2025, full-time, permanent

Tormead School is an academically selective independent school for 800 girls aged 4–18, located a short stroll from the historic town centre of Guildford, just 40 minutes by train to London.

We are looking for an experienced administrator to join the School at an exciting time in its evolution, as we continue to deliver our ambitious plans for growth. Reporting to the Head of HR, the postholder will provide an effective and responsive HR and recruitment service across the Tormead group of schools. Key responsibilities will include managing end-to-end recruitment campaigns, staff onboarding, absence management, employee terms and conditions of employment, preparation of the monthly payroll, and providing professional advice and guidance in HR matters.

No two days are the same, as a result, being flexible in responding to the changing needs of our group of schools will be key. We are seeking a team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, who can also work independently, and is highly administratively efficient. The ideal candidate will be CIPD qualified at Level 3 or above or studying towards this. Experience of working in an educational environment would be considered favourably but is not essential.

This is a full-time position working all year round. The school day is from 8.00am until 4.00pm and, due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate must be available across the working day. Part of the Tormead family, Rydes Hill Pre-Prep and Nursery School provides exceptional education and pastoral care for children aged 2-7 within idyllic surroundings in the suburbs of Guildford.

We are seeking warm, caring and enthusiastic Early Years Practitioners to join our friendly Nursery team in delivering high-quality care, teaching, and learning experiences. Our Nursery welcomes children from 2 to 4 years in a bright, spacious, and inspirational learning environment with dedicated outside areas. Our weekly Nursery timetable is supported by specialist teachers including for Forest School and Games/PE.

This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a vibrant and caring independent school community that values every child’s unique potential. The successful candidates will work closely with Room Leaders to support all aspects of nursery life, fostering a safe, stimulating, and nurturing learning environment to allow our pupils to thrive. Daily responsibilities include working in partnership with parents, carers and professionals to promote the well-being of the children, implementing the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum and assisting with creative displays within the Nursery.

You will have experience of working within a similar setting and be able to provide a fun and stimulating learning environment. Candidates will hold a minimum of a Level 3 qualification in childcare and will have a warm and caring attitude and a genuine desire to make a positive difference to children’s learning. A knowledge of the independent school sector would be an advantage but is not essential.

There are two Early Years Practitioner opportunities available: one full-time (5 days per week), and one part-time (3 days per week), both working all year round, to include some early starts and late finishes at 6.00pm. Key responsibilities will include creating a vital first impression to visitors, answering the main school telephone and dealing with all queries from parents, pupils and visitors, administering first aid and ensuring the safety and welfare of the children as a first priority.

No two days are the same, as a result, being flexible in responding to the changing needs of our school and nursery will be key. Premises & Grounds Assistant (Tormead)

We are looking for an experienced Premises and Grounds Assistant to join the School at an exciting time in its evolution, as we continue to deliver our ambitious plans for growth. Reporting to the Premises Team Leader, and working closely with the wider Estates team, the postholder will play a hands-on practical role in maintaining our estates, supporting the day-to-day operational needs of the school community, ensuring that facilities are presented and maintained to the highest standards. Key responsibilities will include maintaining the gardens and sports pitches, completing maintenance tasks, supporting planned maintenance, driving school vehicles, setting up for events, moving furniture and equipment, and assisting with health and safety routines.

This is a vital operational role for someone practical, reliable, and service-oriented, who enjoys working as part of a team and is willing to contribute flexibly to a busy and varied environment across a multi-site organisation. No two days are the same, as a result, being flexible in responding to the changing needs of our schools will be key. Candidates must have a willingness to drive the school minibuses (training will be provided). The successful candidate will be expected to take a proactive, professional, and safety-conscious approach at all times. Experience of working in an educational environment would be considered favourably but is not essential.

Required for September 2025, mornings, 10 hours per week, term time only

Tormead School is an academically selective independent school for 800 girls aged 4–18, located a short stroll from the historic town centre of Guildford, just 40 minutes by train to London.

We are looking for approachable driver with a flexible attitude who is confident working with young people to join our friendly team. Reporting to the Premises Team Leader, the postholder will collect students before the start of the school day from specified locations along a given route, arriving at school by 8.30am.

Candidates must hold a clean driving licence. A warm, approachable, and engaging manner, with the confidence to build relationships with colleagues and students is essential. The successful candidate will be expected to take a proactive, professional, and safety-conscious approach at all times. Experience of working in an educational environment would be considered favourably but is not essential.

The hours are 10 hours per week, from 6.30am until 8.30am, Monday to Friday during the school’s term time (33 weeks per annum).
